Family

Vijay married Sangeetha Sornalingam on 25 August 1999.^[38] They have two children, a son Sanjay born in 2000 in London,^[39] and a daughter Divya born in 2005 in Chennai.
His cousin Vikranth is an actor. His uncle S. N. Surendar is a playback singer and dubbing artist.

Brand endorsement

In 2002, Vijay appeared as Coca-Cola's brand ambassador in Tamil Nadu.^[40][41] He acted in a variety of South Indian Coca Cola advertisements, along with Katrina Kaif. He has been the ambassador for Sunfeast since 2005.^[42] In 2008, Vijay was signed up as an ambassador for the Indian Premier League cricket team Chennai Super Kings, along with actress Nayanthara.^[43] In January 2009, Vijay was approached as the brand ambassador for Coca Cola products.^[44] As of August 2010, Vijay was signed by Jos Alukkas as their brand ambassador for Tamil Nadu and Kerala.^[45] The Jos Alukkas advertisement featuring Vijay and his mother Shoba is an extremely famous one in Tamil Nadu. Philanthropy

Vijay started a social welfare organisation Vijay Makkal Iyakkam which was officially launched at Pudukottai on 26 July 2009. It is responsible for much of his philanthropic work. After Cyclone Thane his Makkal Mandram administrators arranged for a relief camp at Kammiyampettai, Cuddalore where the star provided rice to the affected people. Cuddalore was the worst affected area in floods and Vijay reached out to help these people out by rendering some assistance. The area in which the camp happened soon wore a festive look with thousands of people gathering to catch a glimpse of their favorite star.^[47] Vijay has appeared along with Suriya, R. Madhavan and Jyothika in a short commercial video about child poverty, labour and lack of education, titled Herova? Zerova? produced by Surya in an effort to eliminate children who drop out of school at an early age, made in association with Vishnuvardhan Induri the founder of CCL and the Ministry of Education of Tamil Nadu^[48]. The Ilayathalapathy Vijay Educational Awards 2012 was conducted at JS Kalyana Mandapam in Chennai on 8 July 2012 by his Vijay Makkal Iyakkam to honour the students topped in 2012 SSLC and 12th board exams and the awards were distributed by Vijay himself. On his every birthday, Vijay presents golden rings to the new born babies at the Egmore Government General Hospital.^[49]

Vijay (born Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar on 22 June 1974)^[2] is an Indian actor, playback singer and producer, who works in the Tamil film industry. Son of film director and producer S. A. Chandrasekhar, he started his career as a child actor in the movie Vetri and later made his debut as a lead actor in the 1992 film Naalaya Theerpu both of which were directed by his father. He launched the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, a social welfare organisation in 2009. Raghavan Murugaiyan (born 9 January 1976) is an Indian choreographer who has also appeared in films as an actor, director, composer and playback singer. After making his debut as a choreographer in 1993, he began looking for acting opportunities. He began his career as an actor in 1998, in a Telugu film, aged 22. He adopted the name "Lawrence" in 2001, and worked for many prominent actors and directors in Tamil cinema throughout his career. He got his breakthrough with Telugu film Style and then Muni. Lawrence is also known for his intricate hip-hop and westernized dance moves and has won 4 Filmfare Awards and 3 Nandi Awards for best choreography.

Career

Lawrence had brain tumor when he was a child and rarely went to school.^[1][2][3] He got cured after his mother went to a temple of Raghavendra Swami^[4] and Lawrence strongly believes that it was Raghavendra Swami who cured him of his tumour.^[5] He became an ardent devotee of the deity and added its name to his name.^[2] He built the Raghavendra Swamy Brindavanam Temple at Thirumullaivayal on the Avadi-Ambattur route, which opened from 1 January 2010.^[6]
He was working as a car cleaner for fight master Super Subbarayan.^[2] Rajinikanth saw him dancing and helped him to join the Dancers Union.^[2][7] Chiranjeevi offered him the job of choreographing the dances for Hitler. Pleased with Lawrence's work, Chiranjeevi asked him to choreograph dances for Master, his next film too.^[2]

Lawrence first appeared in a song in Donga Police in 1991, also doing some dances with Prabhu Deva. He was a background dancer in the song Chikku Bukku Chikku Bukku Railey in Gentleman.^[2] He also appeared in dance sequences in Muta Mesthri, Rakshana and Allari Priyudu.^[2] Producer T V D Prasad offered him the role of a hero in his venture Speed Dancer.^[2] That film was a flop.^[1] After that he acted in 2 Tamil films as hero and those films also flopped.^[1] Director K. Balachander invited him to act in his 100th film Parthale Paravasam.^[7] He got his breakthrough with the Muni film series.

West African Black Rhinoceros (2006)

The majestic West African black rhino was declared extinct in 2006, after conservationists failed to find any in their last remaining habitat in Cameroon. The West African black rhino was one of four subspecies of rhinoceros.

Cause of extinction: Poachers hunted the rhino for its horn, which is believed by some in Yemen and China to possess aphrodisiacal powers.

Zanzibar Leopard (1996)

One of several subspecies of leopard, the Zanzibar leopard made its home on the Zanzibar archipelago of Tanzania. It's still unclear whether this large cat is technically extinct — there are occasional unconfirmed sightings.

Cause of extinction: Locals believed the leopards were kept by witches, and aggressively hunted them. The animals were seen as evil predators that must be exterminated — and even the government was in on the campaign. In the mid-'90s there was a short-lived conservation effort but it was deemed too little, too late.

 

Golden Toad (1989)

The golden toad is not the only species to disappear in the past 40 years, but it might just be the brightest. This fluorescent amphibian was found in the high-altitude ridges of Costa Rica, but thanks to pollution, global warming and fungal skin infections, the species became extinct in 1989.
